Medication
With the exception of rescue medications, students are not allowed to possess and self-administer prescription or over-the-counter medications at school. Wells ISD health services collaborates with East Texas Premier Pediatrics for specific over-the-counter medications that may be administered in the school setting. Please see the list of OTC medications allowed by this collaboration. If you wish to supply your student a medication that is NOT on the list, please contact the school nurse for further guidance.
Wells ISD follows the Texas Education Agency's recommendations, School Board Policy FFAC (legal) & (local) for administration of medication in the school setting.
1. Only school personnel authorized by the Superintendent may administer medication to the student.
2. Authorized school personnel may administer both prescription and nonprescription (Over-the-counter) medications in accordance with local district policy FFAC.
3. All medication, prescription and nonprescription (over-the-counter) must be supplied and brought to the school nurse by the parent or guardian.
4. Prescription medication must be in a properly labeled, original container. A proper prescription label includes all of the following information: Students name, current date, physicians name, physicians' direction for administration, name and strength of medication.
5. Nonprescription (over-the-counter) medication must be unexpired, in the original container and may be administered according to recommended dosages. If the dosage request is outside of the recommended dose, it must be accompanied by a physician's order.
6. All medication, prescription and nonprescription requires a consent form to be completed each school year.
