County Officials Visit 4th Graders

Beverly Milner and Mindy Scott's fourth grade classes enjoyed a visit from Cherokee County sheriff James Campbell and Chris Davis, Justice of the Peace Pct. 2, during the week before the November elections.  The two officials helped explain their job duties to the students, who had been learning about local government in their social studies classes.

Sheriff Campbell describes his job duties to the 4th graders and answers questions about his work, while Justice of the Peace, Chris Davis, looks on.

Now it's Mr. Davis' turn to speak to the students.

Sheriff Campbell takes a break while Mr. Davis discusses the duties of a J.P.

After the speakers' visit, Ms. Milner's class did some campaigning of their own.  They created campaign posters and ran for the offices of County Sheriff, Justice of the Peace, Governor, and County Judge.  After they drummed up votes, they held an election in which the class voted for the candidate of their choice.  What a fun way to learn about our system of government!
