5th Graders Participate in D.A.R.E Graduation

Susan Burke's 5th grade class participated in the D.A.R.E. graduation ceremonies on December 16th.   The D.A.R.E. Program, Drug Abuse Resistance Education, is a collaborative effort between local law enforcement, Wells ISD, parents, and community leaders.

The D.A.R.E. Officer for Wells is Officer Tom Haddock.  Officer Haddock visited our school once a week for 17 weeks to teach the D.A.R.E. curriculum.

From left to right, Superintendent Dale Morton, Officer Haddock, Sheriff James Campbell, Asst. Principal Harlan Neal, and Ms. Burke present certificates to all the 5th graders who completed the D.A.R.E. Program.

The Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program in public schools is our nation's most prominent and visible attempt to educate young people to resist drug abuse. It reaches over 60% of elementary school children in the United States, and is far and away the most prevalent drug education program in use today.  We'd like to thank Sheriff James Campbell, Officer Haddock, and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department for making our participation in the D.A.R.E. program possible.
